7 Run 1, Week 9 (BOHR): My Fastest Thirty Minutes Yet!

After extracting myself from that massive, life-sucking vortex that is the couch, I managed to stop putting off the inevitable & go for my run. (It was late, I'd probably waited a bit too long to go out for my run, & at that point, I was really tired & didn't feel like picking up my carcass & heading out the door. Once you hop on a bed or a couch to rest or relax, the inertia can really be deadly. But it's a challenge that, at this point, is not impossible for me to overcome. These days, I'm motivated enough not to let a little thing like "couch inertia" get in my way. I look at it like a challenge, "Couch, you are not going to stop me from running!" ;-) )

Anyhow, once I got down there, there were more "challenges" in store for me: The lake was very crowded, & it once again felt like a human obstacle course. There were large groups of people hogging the entire path, & several times, I had to go "off road" to run around them, even after issuing several "on your left" or "on your right" announcements. (After a while, I really & truly just wanted to yell, "People, just MOVE IT!" And, at one point I did mumble some similar sentiments under my breath, of course with a few added expletives for good measure, but it was highly unlikely that anyone heard me at that low of a decibel level. After all, if they hadn't heard me when I asked them to move, at much higher decibel-levels, then how the heck would they be able to hear my mumblings! ;-) ) There were lots of smokers too, which also made running a not-so-pleasant experience tonight.

Yes, if you can't guess, I was feeling rather irritated & crabby tonight, because I just wanted to knock out my run, & didn't feel like dealing with annoying people who were too spacey or inconsiderate to move out of the way, or even more annoying smokers who were clogging the airspace with their disgusting, filthy fumes! ARRRRrrrrrgh! (Yes, that's the equivalent of me growling. ;-) )

The one GOOD thing about tonight's run was that it was COOL outside, & there was an occasional breeze, which made the other factors a bit more bearable. The other good thing is that ironically, due to all of the above annoyances, it made me want to run faster, which probably explains why I had my fastest 30-minute run thus far. ;-)

Thank goodness I'm almost done with the BOHR program! I mean, it's a great program, but I'm not going to lie; I'm starting to get dreadfully bored with this running program & am VERY thankful it's coming to a close very soon!

Additionally, while I'm VERY motivated to improve my running (in terms of quality & speed), I have been struggling with some motivation issues this week; I honestly haven't been as thrilled to do my pushups or my runs as compared to previous weeks. Me thinks I'd better add some cross-training in there somewhere soon, or else I'm going to get very bored with my current workouts!

For the record, this is my second time dong the BOHR program, (the first time having been last year, pre-illness/running hiatus period) & while I'm performing much better the second time around, I think the next program I do is going to have to have a tad bit more versatility!

I'm still looking for the perfect (or near-perfect) 10K training program. I'm really picky, so if I can't find anything that suits my needs, I might end up making a custom plan that works just for me.

Also, I think I want to revisit the BTHR training program I just revised. I think that 30 weeks total for the 3 programs might be a little too long. I mean, there are 52 weeks in a year, & half a year is 26 weeks! I don't want to rush into doing 12 miles, but I'm not sure I can wait 30 weeks before running 12 miles either! There has to be a compromise......

I too am getting really sick of pushups so I'm giving them a few days of rest.

Thanks, Steve! I think the iPod+Nike is off its mark & in reality, I probably cranked out closer to a 10-minute mile, but it's still the best time/pace I've done thus far! (I know this because I did 4 laps, or 2.96 mi, in 30:08, or roughly a 10:10 pace.)

To answer your other question, I'm looking for a 10K training program that will eventually incorporate some 12-mile runs (to double the distance & improve my 6 mile times) & also have some fartleks & shorter tempo runs in there as well. Ideally, it'd be a plan that focuses on overall time on the feet, versus distance covered. You see how picky I am; it's no wonder I can't find a program that suits my needs: Most of the programs either don't have enough long distance runs, are based solely on distance, or take too long to get to the 10k distance & once there, don't allow for enough practice runs at that distance. I don't want a program that will just barely get me to 10k; I want a program that rigorously prepares me for 10k & beyond! ;-)

If you know of a 10k training plan that even comes close to these requirements, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks!

@Steve: Hahaha, yeah it might very well be. ;-)

Oooh, now this one looks good. (How did I miss this one? I scoured the web for 10K programs!) Now I just need to tweak it slightly (translating the long distance running figures into times) & then it'll be perfect! ;-)

Regarding the pushups: Hahahaha, tell me about it! What's keeping me going is sheer terror of what will happen if I take too many days off. The thought of having to repeat ANY of the previous weeks is the one thing that's keeping me going forward. LOL.

There's something to be said for just finishing the darned thing. And then we can think about taking days off. So what'd'ya think?!

Is it worth taking a break if it means backtracking?!

Leaving for the Mud Run soon. Should be a lot of fun although I was hoping for some rain overnight to make things even more interesting :)
